GLP-1 Monitoring
FAQ

Clear, science-backed answers to your questions about molecular GLP-1 testing.

Testing Basics

What is included in the GLP-1 Monitoring Panel?

Our panel is the most comprehensive monitoring test available for patients taking semaglutide or tirzepatide (Ozempic®, Wegovy®, Mounjaro®, Zepbound®). It combines:

  • Standard Blood Chemistry: CMP, Lipid Panel, HbA1c, Fasting Insulin, hs-CRP, CBC, and TSH (Thyroid).
  • The mRNA Layer: Proprietary gene expression tracking covering 48 gene targets that measure metabolic engagement, early muscle-loss signals (catabolism), and inflammatory cytokine response.
Do I need a prescription or doctor's order to get tested?

No. One Health Labs offers direct consumer access. You can order the test panel yourself without a doctor’s order. We provide a complete report that is easy to understand, and we encourage you to share your results with your prescribing healthcare provider to help them optimize your care.

How often should I monitor my GLP-1 therapy?

We recommend a standard clinical cadence: a baseline panel before starting or right as you begin, a titration panel at week 4 (when dosage usually changes), and maintenance panels every 12 weeks thereafter. Learn more on our Testing Schedule page.

The mRNA Layer

What is the "mRNA Layer" and why does it matter?

Standard blood tests only show static, lagging indicators (like cholesterol or glucose levels). The mRNA layer measures gene expression—specifically, which biological processes are actively being turned "on" or "off" in your cells right now. For patients on GLP-1s, this lets us see metabolic engagement and detect muscle-breakdown signals weeks before clinical outcomes appear.

How does this test detect early muscle loss?

When your body undergoes rapid weight loss, it can break down muscle tissue (catabolism) instead of fat. We monitor the expression of specific catabolic pathway genes (like MURF1 and MAFbx). When these gene targets are highly active, it signals that muscle breakdown is occurring—allowing you and your doctor to adjust your diet, protein intake, or resistance training immediately.

Logistics, Locations & Cost

Where can I get my sample collected?

Our flagship CLIA-certified molecular testing laboratory is located at 401 N Broad St, Suite 222, Philadelphia, PA 19108. We also have partner drawing facilities and support mobile phlebotomy options for regional clients. If you are located outside Philadelphia, please contact us to discuss collection options in your area.

How long does it take to get my report?

While the Biomeme molecular instrument completes its PCR analysis run in under 15 minutes, standard blood chemistry tests require typical laboratory turnaround times. Your integrated report (combining both chemistry and mRNA results) is fully reviewed and delivered securely within 1 to 3 business days.

Is this testing covered by health insurance?

Our comprehensive monitoring panels are cash-pay wellness services. We do not bill insurance directly. We can provide you with an itemized invoice that you may submit to your HSA/FSA provider for reimbursement, subject to your plan's guidelines.
